♥ TREE CARE TIPS ♥

1. BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE FARM

3. GIVE YOUR TREE A PROPER FIT

1. BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE FARM

Once you’ve found your perfect tree, give the stump a firm tap on the ground to help dislodge any loose or naturally shed needles tucked among the branches. This is especially helpful with our beautiful, full-bodied Grand Firs, which tend to hold plenty of needles within their lush branches.

2. LET YOUR TREE ACCLIMATIZE

3. GIVE YOUR TREE A PROPER FIT

1. BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE FARM

When you bring your tree home, let it rest overnight in a sheltered space, such as a carport, shed, or garage, before bringing it indoors. This gives your tree a little time to adjust to its new surroundings. Just before bringing it inside, make a fresh cut by removing approximately half an inch from the bottom of the trunk. This helps your tree absorb water more readily, keeping it hydrated and fresh throughout the season.

Choose a sturdy tree stand that comfortably accommodates the diameter of your tree’s trunk. Our Noble Firs and Fraser Firs often have thicker trunks, so be sure your stand is the right size before heading home. If your tree’s trunk doesn’t fit your stand, resist the temptation to shave off the bark to make it fit. The outer layers of the trunk play an important role in water uptake, and preserving them helps your tree make the most of the water you provide.

4. KEEP THE WATER FLOWING

6. GIVE YOUR TREE A SECOND LIFE

3. GIVE YOUR TREE A PROPER FIT

This is one of the most important steps in keeping your tree fresh! Check the water level in your stand daily and make sure the freshly cut base of the trunk always remains submerged. Don’t be surprised if your tree drinks up to two litres of water a day, especially during the first few days. A well-hydrated tree is better equipped to hold onto its freshness throughout the holidays.

5. LIGHT UP YOUR TREE SAFELY

6. GIVE YOUR TREE A SECOND LIFE

6. GIVE YOUR TREE A SECOND LIFE

LED Christmas lights are an energy-efficient choice and produce less heat than traditional incandescent lights. Always turn off and unplug your tree lights before going to bed or leaving home, and please avoid placing lit candles on or near your tree. A little extra care helps keep the season merry, bright, and safe for everyone!

When the holidays come to an end, don’t forget to bring your tree in for tree-chipping. It’s a wonderful way to give your Christmas tree a second life and help make the most of this natural resource.
